Local History

The Dover, NH area was the 7th Settlement in America in 1623!  This area included what is now the entire New Hampshire Seacoast.  It is the oldest continuous settlement in New Hampshire (talk about sustainable!).  
 
So, using the Cocheco and Bellamy Rivers to its economic success Dover became the State Capital of New Hampshire in 1792.  Dover took a huge economic blow in 1896 when the Calamity On The Cocheco great flood wiped out the buildings, homes, and industry along the river.  Miraculously, there was no loss of life.
